The Return of ODIs:

The rise of Franchise based T20Is such as the Indian Premier League, Australia Big Bash League, T20 Blast league, Caribbean premiere league, and Pakistan Super League has pushed ODIs out of the limelight. T20Is were much easier to adapt to and quickly took over the family evening televisions slot as they were less time-consuming and more happening. Which was devastating for ODIs as a format.

Although T20Is will still be the most played format the percentage share of the format for T20Is dropped from 53 to 42. The biggest beneficiary of this percentage drop of T20Is is the ODIs format which will now consist of 36 percent of all the matches which will be played between the full members of the International Cricket Council which is a huge rise when compared to the previous 26 percent.

Over the past few years, the international Cricket council has been working hard so that ODIs can be established as the “Prestigious Format” for the Associate Nations as it already elevated new teams to ODI Status. This could be a huge step for the revival of ODI as there are more than 95 countries registered as Associate Nations.
