Q: Khawar, you’re having an incredible career in cricket. Can you tell us how your passion for this sport began?
A: My passion for cricket started in my childhood back in Pakistan. I began playing in high school and quickly realized how much joy the game brought me. That early love has driven me throughout my career.

Q: Relocating to Oman must have been a significant change. How did that transition impact your cricketing career?
A: Moving to Oman in 2008 was pivotal for me. It opened new opportunities, and within a few years, I was proud to represent the national team. It was a chance to showcase my skills on a global platform, and it was definitely the right move.

Q: With over a decade of international experience, what do you consider your biggest achievements?A: I take great pride in my performances in the ICC T20I World Cups. Achievements like my hat-trick against the Netherlands in 2019-20, which ranks among the best in T20I history, and being honored with awards such as Man of the Series and Player of the Year in Oman, are very meaningful to me. I’m proud to have earned over 10 international match awards and to have been ranked among the top 4 all-rounders in the ICC T20I rankings. Nowadays, fostering young talent gives me an incredible sense of purpose and makes me feel blessed.

Q: Leadership is a key part of your role as a captain. How do you inspire your teammates?
A: I believe in leading by example. I focus on strategy and fostering a supportive environment. My goal is to help my teammates grow while we achieve success together. Whenever one of my teammates needs my advice or support, I am always available.

Q: You’ve faced challenges, particularly injuries. How have those experiences shaped you?
A: Overcoming injuries has been tough but transformative. Each setback taught me resilience and has made me a stronger player and person. I’ve learned to appreciate the game even more. When my team needs me, I do everything to help. Returning to the field as a batter to lead my team to victory in 2020 despite my elbow injury is just one example of my deep commitment.

Q: Now based in Houston, how are you contributing to the cricketing community there?
A: In collaboration with my team, I volunteer for other services such as coaching and mentoring to help the cricket community as a whole. I want to share my experiences and help other athletes chase their dreams. I also serve as a selector to identify and nurture emerging talent. For example, I have volunteered with US youth cricket for the Under-15 and Under-17 teams, particularly in team selection and coaching.

Q: Your involvement with women’s teams is notable. Why is this aspect important to you?
A: It’s vital to promote inclusivity in sports. I believe in the potential of women in cricket, and my role in selecting women’s teams is a way to contribute to that growth.

Q: What message do you have for aspiring cricketers?
A: My motto is simple: With dedication and discipline, any dream can become a reality. I encourage young athletes to stay focused and committed. Believe in your dreams; success will follow.

Q: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future of cricket in the U.S.?
A: I envision a thriving cricket community with players representing the U.S. on the world stage, as well as international talents playing in the U.S. I hope for the sport to grow in popularity both nationally and internationally.
