BCCI has announced that the IPL 2020 will be played in the UAE between September and November as the final decision about T20 World Cup 2020 postponement. A final meeting of the International Cricket Board (ICC) was scheduled on 20th July 2020 in which the decision about the postponement of the T20 World Cup 2020 had been confirmed. The event is now shifted from October-November to the same months of 2021. All the board members welcomed this decision despite the current devastating situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the IPL 2020 was decided to be held in India, IBC has requested the Indian Government to shift it to UAE. The COVID-19 situation in India is not stable and the cases are accelerating day by day. In this alarming situation, the change in IPL 2020 venue is acceptable by the management. Travel permissions and other conditions for the players are also requested by the Indian government. UAE is ready to provide all the needed support and to host this cricket tournament, however, the ECB currently said in a statement that
“We are ready to fully support the IPL if it chooses to come and play in the UAE. We will provide all the support concerning the protocol and government permission required to host the IPL. We are waiting for written confirmation from BCCI”
It is a deep concern and wish of BCCI that IPL 2020 should be played in Mumbai, India but the disrupt Coronavirus situation in the capital city make it impossible. India is among the top five countries in terms of Covid-19 active cases that make the occurrence of this event in India unfeasible.
